Elder Care Provider

Serving Families and Facilities in Tampa

Elder Care First is a locally owned geriatric mental health care company in Tampa, FL. Our founder, Jesse Rodriguez is a certified Adult-gerontological Primary Care provider Nurse Practitioner specializing in mental health related conditions in the geriatric population. As a Nurse Practitioner he has always had a special interest helping and treating patients with mild, moderate, or severe cognitive impairments relating to Dementia. His personal, as well as his professional and academic backgrounds have collectively given him a unique and special perspective as to how he approaches various treatment modalities. Specifically, treating “agitated”, “combative”, non-compliant patients from their homes to the institutions where they reside. Additionally, as a former Registered Nurse with 9 years of Intensive care experience working with patients who come from home or an institution Jesse has experienced the full spectrum of the health care industry, from hospital admissions to being discharged back to patients place of residence, with the insight of how transitioning from the home, Assisted Living facilities, Rehabilitation facilities, or newly admitted to the hospital setting can take a toll on one’s overall medical/mental status.

Jesse’s unique perspective comes from his up bringing as a young child living in the woods without modern conveniences, ex. electricity or running water. Then later his international travels to Bolivia, Columbia, Ecuador, and Mexico collaborating with “Doctors without Borders” in remote villages with similar accommodations from his up bringing as a child.

Furthermore, before Jesse entered into the health care field, he was a primary caregiver to his elderly Italian grandparents. After his grandfather passed, he was responsible for the wellbeing of his grandmother “Nani”, who had advanced dementia. Jesse was unaware at the time his grandmother had “dementia”. It was brought to his attention after multiple admission to the hospital when a trusted Nurse commented to him how confused his grandmother presented. Initially Jesse was defensive, but slowly realized with increased inquiry and education that yes his grandmother does have “something” different about her now diagnosed as dementia. Ironically, not one health care provider offered appropriate medications to help with her behavioral disturbances while residing at home. She was Jesse’s best friend, when she passed Jesse was compelled and driven to help other family members who’s loved ones were going through similar experiences with their own unique variations of caregiving.

“My true passion is to ameliorate and treat the various geriatric mental health conditions. Particularly, dementia and to educate caregivers of the trials and tribulations of caring for a loved one with dementia, which can bring an improved or higher quality of life to those who’s lives are deteriorating with every passing day.
